Dostiyo Launch a New Service of Mental Health and Carer Support

Mental health affects one in four people in the UK. Most people will have a mental health problem at some point that may affect their daily life, relationships or physical health.
Mental health problems can affect anyone. It is very important to receive help, support and treatment as soon as possible. It can affect the individual and those around them.
Every year in the UK, more than 250,000 people are admitted to psychiatric hospitals and over 4,000 people commit suicide.
At Dostiyo we can help and support you with any issues and help you overcome the stigma and stereotyping attached to Mental Health. We can help you build your confidence and to integrate within the community.

Our aim is to ensure that Asian women with Mental Health conditions are more able to cope in their own homes, to exercise personal choice and live more independent and fulfilled lives. We hope to achieve this by providing the following:
• Information and Resource centre
• Home support service (practical and emotional support)
• Carer Support Service
• Wellbeing Café at Dostiyo, Northampton, Victoria Centre, Wellingborough, Village Hall
community centre in Corby and Corn Market Hall at Kettering
The Project will offer support to
• Asian women with Mental Health problems over 18 years old
• Asian Women with early on set dementia
• Social and Healthcare professionals
• Carers and their families
Specific benefits of the project will include
Improved pathways to care for Asian Women with Mental Health problems, resulting
improved outcomes
• Reduction in isolation and dependency - to promote independent living in the community
• Provision of help and support towards self-management of disease and pain.
• Better access for the Asian population to services at an earlier stage in order to prevent
complications arising from long-term conditions and reducing the likelihood of crisis
intervention through provision and referral.
All of the above apply regardless of age, gender social class, religious belief, sexual orientation, marital status, disability.

Wellbeing Cafe
Wellbeing Cafe is held across the county. The aim is to help Asian women cross the barriers of isolation, abuse, threats and at the same time promoting self-help, advocacy and information in the community.
You can come and enjoy some refreshments and at the same time get to know other ladies in your local areas.
